Hermes Agent v0.22.5
Overview
v0.22.5 — the roll-up patch. Released October 22, 2026. 231 non-merge commits · 804 changed files (+35,212 / −17,885) · 81 merged PRs · 30 closed issues, measured at commit bf0203a794a.
This tag exists so the surfaces that cannot follow main — the GitHub release with the CLI and installers, the Microsoft Store app, Docker and Hermes Cloud — sit on one stable point instead of three days of merged work. The release body says it plainly: the curated notes for this window ship with v0.23.0, which will document everything from v0.22.0 onward. What the page lists instead is a deliberately unexpanded paragraph of what moved.
That paragraph is the useful part. Four of its items already have their own write-ups on this site, and the rest are things you feel before you can name them: an update that now refuses to offer a release it would not install, a Windows launcher that stops coming back after a Python repin, slash commands that can ask you a question, and a sidebar you can pin by dragging.
Highlights
1. A patch tag in numbers
81 merged PRs in a single tag is a large patch, and the shape of the change is worth knowing before you upgrade: 231 non-merge commits over 804 files, with +35,212 / −17,885 lines. Most of that is not one feature but the accumulated tail of a three-day window. For scale, the previous tag v0.22.4 rolled up 13 merged PRs across 82 files.
2. hermes update now holds back a release it refuses
The updater could previously offer you a stable release and then decline to install it — you accepted, and nothing happened. In this release, a stable release the updater will not accept is held back instead of offered. The practical effect: the update prompt only appears for versions this install can actually move to, and a refused release no longer looks like a stalled upgrade you caused.
3. The Windows launcher stops coming back after a Python repin
When the Python pin changed, hermes update on Windows could stay stuck on the old launcher — the update finished, but the command you ran next was still the previous one. The launcher is now re-pointed as part of the update, so the next hermes you run is the new build.
4. Plugin slash commands can ask you to pick an option
A plugin’s slash command used to be fire-and-forget: it ran, or it printed something. They can now present a choice and wait for you to pick one before continuing. For plugin authors this turns a command into a short dialogue where the option list is the plugin’s, not a free-text prompt the model has to reconstruct.
5. Desktop: drag-to-pin, and one-click plugin installs with tier badges
Two changes to the desktop shell. Sidebar entries can be pinned by dragging them where you want them. And plugins install in one click from the catalog, with a tier badge on each entry so you can tell a first-party, verified or community plugin apart before you click. The same release carries the Electron 44 upgrade.
6. hermes mcp serve and Singularity leave core for plugins
Both moved out of the core package and into the plugin catalog — the same direction agent-importers took in v0.22.4. Setup now offers the importer when it finds another agent’s config on the machine, and hermes import-agent plus the OpenClaw migration path are part of that surface. If you rely on either the MCP-server mode or the Singularity/Apptainer terminal backend, install them as plugins after upgrading.
7. Housekeeping you will notice in the margins
- Pillow 13 plus a batch of dependency security bumps.
- A chat whose working folder is gone now says so, instead of failing a tool call with a confusing path error.
- Long Claude DirectSDK answers are no longer cut off by the stall timer.
- Desktop group chats show which bot is working again.
- An experimental webhook-mode MCP events client ships for the MCP event stream.
